How it works

From your TNB bill to power on your roof

What happens at each step, how long it takes, and how the current rules credit your extra power.

Your steps, start to finish

About 6 to 10 weeks from booking to a working system. Only 1 to 2 of those days are on your roof.

  1. Day 1: tell us your bill

Answer 7 questions or send a bill photo on WhatsApp. We estimate the size, price and savings for your home.

  2. Day 1 to 3: up to 3 quotes

SEDA-registered installers near you quote for your home from your bill and roof photos. Compare them side by side.

  3. Week 1: free roof check

The installer you pick visits to check the roof, wiring and shade, then confirms the final price. You book with RM2,000, credited to the system.

  4. Week 1 to 6: approvals

Your installer asks TNB to check the connection and prepares the Solar ATAP paperwork.

  5. Install day: 1 to 2 days

Panels, inverter, isolators and wiring go in. The crew tests and commissions the system.

  6. Week 6 to 10: switched on

The application goes to SEDA, TNB fits the two-way meter, and your Solar ATAP account starts. Your app shows what you make each day.

Solar ATAP, in plain words

The scheme that replaced NEM on 1 January 2026. These points come from SEDA's own guidelines.

You use your solar first

Power from your roof runs your home before you buy any from TNB. This is where most of the saving comes from.

Extra power earns credit

Power you send to TNB is credited at the energy charge, 27.03 sen per kWh, against what you buy that month.

Credit resets every month

Credit you do not use in the same billing month is lost. That is why the right size beats the biggest system.

Size limits

Up to 5 kW on a single-phase supply and 15 kW on three-phase. Bigger needs a TNB check (RM1,000).

10-year contract

Credit runs for 10 years. After that, the system keeps working for your own use.

Batteries are allowed

A battery stores daytime power for the night, so less of it is sent out for credit.
